Why this counter

Why writers choose this counter

Every metric updates as you type — no buttons, no waiting.

Completely private

All counting happens in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

Works everywhere

Phone, tablet or desktop — and offline once loaded.

Built for every language

Accurate counts for Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic and CJK scripts.

Under the hood

How the word count works

We split your text on whitespace and punctuation to count words, then tally characters, sentences and paragraphs as you type.

For Chinese, Japanese and Korean, each character is counted as a word — matching how those languages measure length. Reading time assumes 200 words per minute and speaking time 130.
