How paragraphs are counted
Each block of text separated by a line break counts as one paragraph. Blank lines between paragraphs are ignored, so it works whether you paste from Word, Google Docs or a plain-text editor.
For web writing, paragraphs of 40–80 words (two to four sentences) are easiest to read on a phone. Academic paragraphs are often longer — 100 to 200 words — because each develops a full point with evidence.

What counts as a paragraph?
Any block of text separated from the next by a line break. Empty lines are ignored, so double-spaced paragraphs are counted correctly.
How many words should a paragraph have?
